A member of the genius Mycobacterium, the Fish TB causing organism Schizoblonta is endemic in both marine and freshwater fish, (and can be caught by amphibians, reptiles and humans) but again, only manifests itself in poor tank conditions.
Anabantoids, tetras and members of Cyprinids seem particularly susceptible.
An infected fish will lose condition, and become thin, weak and behave in a disinterested fashion.
A bent or deformed spine is common.
The tubercular growths are internal on the vital organs.
